NBT’s Table Grapes and Stone Fruits

The global fruit growing industry has a continuing need to develop new varieties and genetic engineering has allowed the creation of new transgenic crops (GMOs) with competitive properties. Despite this, the commercial success is not always achieved, due to the negative perception of the consumers and regulators.

The aim of the subproject is to use new techniques developed for genetic engineering, to support the genetic improvement of table grapes and stone fruits, with a focus on tolerance to fungi and resistance to virus by genetic modification techniques,  which by their nature and use can generate products that are not classified as GMOs.
