Apple Tree Breeding Program

The low profitability of apple orchards in recent seasons is caused by several factors, including low production of orchards for over 20 years, high radiation that affects the fruit, increased cost of labor and low price in international markets. This situation has forced the industry to react and seek solutions.

The aim of this subproject is to obtain new early varieties, high productivity, adaptable to hot and high radiation climates without alternation in production, with differentiating quality attributes, good postharvest and adaptable to conduction systems that facilitate mechanization, all through a genetic improvement program.
