Genome IV – Stone Fruits
The growth rate of peaches and nectarines has been negative in the years 2000-2012, a situation that contrasts with that observed in the global industry. The lack of varieties that resist cold storage causes a low participation in providing counter-season. Therefore the need to develop new varieties is evident.
The aim is to identify polymorphisms (SNPs and indels) associated with fruit quality by re-sequencing the genome and detailed phenotyping of individuals of a segregating population. This way the development of new varieties is optimized.
